The first-ever FSMTA Collegiate Convocation was held on October 25-26, 2008 in Ybor City. Held in conjunction with the state level of the MTNA Competitions, the convocation was planned to give our collegiate student members an opportunity to observe and assist with the competitions, as well as providing a number of events specifically geared for students. A Saturday evening recital showcased their performing abilities, as well as featuring college faculty artists and a commissioned composition for solo guitar and guitar ensemble by Rex Willis, with guitar soloist Rene Gonzalez. Sunday morning activities included several sessions specifically designed with students in mind, and the convocation concluded with a luncheon banquet early Sunday afternoon.
